As the league enters it’s last quarter, Bedford hold a two point lead over Berkhamsted, with the same number of matches played (28). Depending on the outcome of the abandoned match just over 2 weeks ago, and whether it has to be replayed or not, Bedford have either nine or ten matches to play, and whether the points go to either side or, as stated before, a replay, the permutations will vary, so lets say, for arguments sake, the table is as complete as it’s likely to be at the moment.
Just to remind everyone of the current status of the Kidlington abandoned match, the decision is in the hands of the football association and as soon as a decision is made, an update will be made on the club's website immediately.
At the time of writing, we still don’t know the outcome of the Kidlington absurdity. We do know, however, that we have five home matches left in this season. The first of those five home fixtures will be on Saturday as we welcome Didcot Town to the Eyrie.
The Railwaymen, as they are known, will be making tracks over to Bedford for our first game in March - the 5th of March to be exact.
At Didcot in late November, Bedford came away from this difficult fixture with a 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Drew Richardson, Joe Butterworth, and Connor Tomlinson. Extended highlights from that game can be seen courtesy of the Didcot Town YouTube channel.
Apart from the usual knocks and bruises, and with Craig Mackail-Smith still recovering from a leg break, and no suspensions, Gary Setchell will have the Manager’s welcome dilemma of a fairly full squad to pick from.
As form guides go, Bedford top the table after the last 6 matches, while Didcot are in 15th, but don’t take this for granted. The Eagles have won 5 and drawn 1 game in their last 6 home games, while Didcot have won, drew, and lost 2 in their last 6 away games.
This has been a tough time in the last month for our visitors, as they have played Welwyn Garden City, Thame Utd, and Berkhamsted since 12th Feb. Whatever happens from now until St. George’s Day we don’t know.
It’s going to be fun to find out though, as the season starts drawing to a close. It’s been a season of controversy at times, but ultimately an exciting one, going into the last game of the season at home to Aylesbury United on 23rd April.
Be a part of it. Everyone is welcome at the Eyrie.
