With 21 names on the teamsheet for our home tie against Inverness Craig Dunain the Deeside team went into the game fired up. So much so that they were given offside at the kick-off – not a great start. However, it wasn't long before Deeside were back on the front foot and on 5 minutes Scott Beattie opened the scoring with a true forward's try. Rhys Barker slotted the conversion. Deeside continued to apply pressure (when they weren't kicking the ball away). On 19 minutes Finlay Hall despite losing a boot managed to carry on an attack in the opposition 22 with a soggy sock until the pressure resulted in a Deeside scrum. Finlay was re-united with his boot and having won the scrum Scott McNeil crossed the whitewash for another five points. Inverness were not out of it though and some sloppy play by Deeside and determined attack by the visitors saw them score and convert on the 26 minutes mark. Inverness were playing well but fierce tackling from Deeside was nullifying the threat. On 35 minutes Deeside flanker Fraser Halkett went off injured. On came Tom Procter who slotted into the backs with Matthew Horne taking over at flanker. By this point Deeside were keeping the ball in hand more and as the half was coming to an end a Deeside attack ended with a try for Niall Hall taking the score to 17-7 at half-time. After a rousing team talk Deeside picked up where they had left off with winger Ben Duncan scoring on the 42 minute mark which was converted by Rhys Barker. Deeside continued to contain and thwart the visitors and on 48 minutes Tom Procter crossed scored his first try of the day and Rhys Barker again slotted the conversion. On 57 minutes the Inverness hooker had to go off with a neck injury and Deeside debutant William Hooker (real name) came on for the visitors. On the hour mark Tom Procter powered across the try line for his second score of the day. Despite their best efforts Inverness could still not turn their attacks into points thanks to stout defence by the Deeside team. On 68 minutes a fine passage of play from the home team including a final reverse inside pass from Tom Davidson resulted in another Deeside try for Michael Fawcett. Kevin Moir came on for the last 10 minutes for his home debut to round off a good day for Deeside. Final score 41-7 with great performances by every member of the squad and great attitude from start to finish.
